Not All Yellow Paths Lead to Oz… But This One Got a Sign
A Fun, Thoughtful Garden Gift
Sometimes the best projects come from a simple, fun idea. Tony approached us wanting to create a custom sign for his friend’s garden path. The path just happened to be yellow, and Tony thought it would make a playful and unique gift to celebrate that.
Meeting Tony
Tony got in touch with us, and we arranged to meet at Costa Coffee to discuss the project—which was quite nice, because, let’s be honest, who doesn’t like coffee? Over coffee, Tony shared his idea: a National Trust-style sign with the text “Yellow Brick Road” as a fun, personalized gift.
Concept: The Yellow Brick Road Sign
The sign was created from the ground up. Extensive research was done to understand the National Trust’s style, its logo, and the way their signs are typically made. Every detail was carefully recreated in CAD, ensuring accuracy in proportions, typography, and design elements.
We then produced a 3D render of the sign, allowing Tony to visualize the final design before printing. He loved it—it perfectly combined the classic National Trust aesthetic with a playful twist, reflecting the bright yellow path and the fun gift idea.
The sign also needed to be mounted on a post and stand proudly outdoors. Durability was key—it had to withstand all types of weather while looking great.
Bringing the Yellow Brick Road to Life
Tony loved the first sign so much, he asked for a second one to be made to sit under the National Trust-style sign on the same post. This new sign would act as a directional arrow to add a playful element to the path.
We designed the second sign with “Emerald City” as the text and a directional arrow pointing to the right, as you look at it. A 3D render was created and shared with Tony, and once again he was thrilled. The sign was printed and now sits perfectly beneath the Yellow Brick Road sign, guiding the way with a whimsical touch.
Bringing the Yellow Brick Road to Life
Once printed, Tony painted the lettering in bright yellow. The sign now stands proudly in his garden, a charming, custom gift that celebrates the bright yellow path.
This project is a perfect example of how research, design, and creativity come together to turn a fun idea into a memorable, lasting gift. From coffee discussions to CAD designs, renders, and finished signs, Tony’s thoughtful signage now brings charm and personality to a friend’s garden for everyone to enjoy.
